For my money the race for Player of the Year isn’t all that close. Sorry John Wall. My apologies Wes Johnson. Evan Turner is the most dynamic and talented player in the college game today. He’s built like a hybrid wing, handles like point guard, and shoots it like a sniper.
He’s that good. He’s Carmello Anthony, put you on my back, refuse to let you lose type of talent. Unlike Anthony, Turner doesn’t need anyone to get him the ball. He’s essentially the Buckeye point guard.
He’s also their top scorer, their best rebounder, and an assist man on a team full of really good players. This isn’t a David Robinson and four scrubs situation like Navy had back in the day. Evan Turner is just a singular talent and the rest of the country better take heed. The Buckeyes, thanks to Evan Turner are for real.
Here’s Turner’s Big 10 Championship statline.
12-18 shooting, 3-5 from deep, 4-5 from the line, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 blocks. Just sick.
As for the season, the Buckeyes record is 27-7. Three of those losses came with Evans out of the lineup. Now try to imagine Ohio State is 30-4 if Evans had been healthy all season. You would have a tough time arguing against the Buckeyes being one of the top 2 seeds nationally.
Here’s a primer on why I think the Buckeyes deserve a 1 seed if Evan Turner leading the charge wasn’t enough for you.

Definitely taking him in my player draft. Awesome. Need to study the brackets a bit more but Lighty also impressed me today.

Yeah Mr Turner is amazing, The best basketball is going to be played in the midwest for sure… The Georgetown vs Ohio st easily could be a final four game… and a game between ohio st and Kansas could easily be for it all.

[...] Evan Turner and the slipper wearing Northern Iowa Panthers are looking to keep the dream alive against opponents that pose some unique challenges of their own. Turner is going to have to flash more Player of the Year Magic like he’s done all year. In the other game, I’d give away my kingdom for another order of ONIONS! courtesy of Ali Farokhmanesh. [...]
